Biography
The rapper JR grew up surrounded by music and driven by an insatiable hunger for the next best beat, the perfect beat.
The quest and passion for music led JR through early collaborations with some of South Africa’s hottest acts, earning him a name in the industry as well as a reputation for a peerless talent.
Diligence and dedication to his craft paid off for JR as doors began to open and he found himself receiving offers like he’d never previously imagined. JR quickly scooped a lucrative management deal, record deal and car endorsement all before the age of 21.
His first full length album was released in 2008 and was an instant hit and JR found himself being nominated for Best Hip Hop Album at the 2008 Metro FM Awards and Best Rap at the 2009 South African Music Awards (SAMAs). and he quickly became a household name as his rhythms and beats were being broadcasted by popular demand into homes around the country.
JR’s music was selected by cell phone gigant Vodaphone as the Voice behind the Bafana Bafana leading up to the Soccer World Cup 2010. As a full-fledged entertainer, JR also has a foot into television as the Executive Producer of the reality show « Rap Dads » and frequent invitations to various TV-shows as talent and mentor, among other things as a mentor for the TV-show Idols (season 12).
JR has one of the most energetic stage performances, backed up by an incredibly gifted electric live band. JR’s live performances include supporting John Legend, Keri Hilson, Neyo and The Game to mention a few.
JR does not intend stopping to push the boundaries and express his multi-facetted creative talents. His latest single « Vibin » went straight to top lists throughout South Africa and hit number 1 on iTunes and radio lists. More surprises from the new album « What.A.Life » are coming. Stay tuned.
